Illinois sets up fund to help purchase defibrillators
By the year 2009, the state of Illinois requires public places like schools, park districts, and universities to have automated external defibrillators, or AEDs.
So there’s a program to help them get a grant. A place of business applies for the grant and sends about $500 to the Heartsaver AED fund. The state will pay the other $500 and buy the defibrillator at a discounted price.
Tom Davis could be the witness knowing how important these devices can be. A police officer used one to revive his heart several years ago. The doctors at OSF were absolutely amazed that Davis came back with mental power, because he was gone for five minutes.”
There is a little more than $100,000 in the fund. The state will accept private donations to raise more money.
