Texas to buy defibrillators for each public school
Matt Nader (football player for the Westlake football team) was saved on the sidelines sometimes in September 2006 by AED. Lt. Governor David Dewhurst wants all the public shcools in Texas (about 8000 of them) to have one, and at least one staff member to be trained.
This incendent was the straw that broke the camel’s back. 80 kids in Texas die each year from heartt failure. Matt’s football career is over, but he is alive, and can tell the story that happened to him. Governor Dewhurst hopes that the funding of these AED for each school (about $1600.00 per unit from www.defibrillators.com) will come from federal grants, and state funding.
