Guidant continues to sell its potentially flawed defibrillator
Guidant Corp made an announcement last week that it would continue to sell its well-known implantable heart defibrillator, the Ventak Prizm 2 DR, despite the fact that a fault in the product had resulted in a redesign of the defibrillator. The company says that according to statistical records, the Ventak Prizm has helped in saving many lives.
Two electrical failures were reported in early 2002 in the defibrillator. However, in both cases, the patient was not harmed in any way. One of these persons has filed a case against Guidant on behalf of the 24,000 patients who are currently using the Ventak Prizm, for not informing them about the possible failure.
